Rostelecom, a General Partner of Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games set up Internet cafés in the Paralympic Villages and Main Media Center, thus offering free Internet access at these venues for accredited reporters and athletes.
Rostelecom Internet cafés in the Main Media Center, the Coastal and Mountain Paralympic Villages, and on Nordic Ski Housing at the Psekhako Ridge crest for athletes competing in biathlon and cross-country ski were adjusted to be comfortably used by athletes with disabilities and opened since 01 March 2014.
During the Olympic Winter Games Rostelecom Internet cafés were quite popular among athletes and media with the total number of Internet sessions on all sites in excess of 10 000.
Altogether within the framework of Sochi 2014 Project Rostelecom connected to the core network infrastructure and provides most advanced telecommunications services to 35 sports venues and facilities for the operation of sports venues, including the Medals Plaza and OBS TV Tower. In order to hold the Games and ensure TV broadcasting Rostelecom upgraded its backbone and multiservice network throughput up to 140 Gbps and 40 Gbps respectively. The total traffic volume transmitted via Rostelecom Olympic channels spanning over 1,000 km surpassed the record of 1 Petabyte or over 1 thousand Tb or 1 million Gb.
Deploying this infrastructure Rostelecom implements cutting-edge solutions, paying a lot of attention to the environment by using ultra modern technologies that preserve the area’s ecosystem, making it possible to keep intact the natural beauty and diversity of Krasnodar region.
