40-year old Norwegian biathlon legend Ole Einar Bjørndalen will turn these Games into a real hunt for gold as he bids to become the most successful athlete in the history of the Winter Olympics. Bjørndalen has almost as many medals as there are candles on his birthday cake (39 in all, with 25 gold at the Olympic Games and at World Championships). He holds the record for number of victories in World Cup events (93), and his sole presence is enough to terrorise the competition. One more medal in Sochi and he will join the greatest cross-country skier in history, Björn Daehlie, who won 12 medals (8 gold, 4 silver). Bjørndalen’s 11 medals (6 gold, 4 silver, 1 bronze) means that it will only take two more for him to stand on the top of the world.
